A project outside Shopify
Most of our work revolves around Shopify. This date takes a small detour into the world of motorcycle apps.
The Tours is a Swiss app for personalised motorcycle tours. Its matchmaker algorithm suggests routes based on individual preferences.
The four-person team worked on the project part-time and still reached 5000 users. My role was to analyse the business case and develop a strategy for the next funding round together with the team.

Someone has to go all-in
One thing became clear quickly during the workshop: part-time is not enough if a startup wants to grow significantly and convince investors.
At least one person needs to focus fully on the company. Especially in a small team, someone has to keep pushing the project forward consistently.

Crack one revenue channel first
The Tours had several potential revenue sources: user subscriptions, monetising data and sponsorships from motorcycle or tourism partners.
Our lesson was simple: do not try to optimise everything at once. Choose one revenue channel first, focus on it and find out whether it really works.

Speed and community
With Calimoto and Motobit, there is already strong competition in the German-speaking market. Speed therefore matters if The Tours wants to expand into additional markets.
At the same time, its main strengths are the community features and matchmaker algorithm. These differences need to be developed further to create a clear distinction from competing apps.
These points gave us a clear roadmap for the next steps around company valuation and funding.
